"I have been lucky enough to visit South Africa twice, both times during August, which is their winter season. The weather was pleasantly warm, much like a lovely summer's day in the UK, which would make it a very ideal time for a Sports Tour.
On our first trip, we flew into Johannesburg and visited the Bothongo Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve. We stayed in a log cabin within the reserve, where during the night, we could hear the lions calling in the distance. It was an unforgettable experience and a wonderful introduction to South Africa's incredible wildlife.
We also incorporated a safari in Kruger National Park, where we were fortunate enough to see almost all the Big 5. Unfortunately, the leopards remained elusive. Maybe next time!
From there, we flew to Port Elizabeth, where we tried sandboarding on the dunes. It was scary but exhilarating, and great fun! Well worth stepping outside my usual comfort zone for! We also enjoyed a relaxing boat trip along the Sundays River, taking in the beautiful scenery.
Our second visit began in Cape Town. We spent time exploring the beautiful V&A Waterfront, with its lively atmosphere, shops and restaurants, before taking the ferry to Robben Island to learn more about South Africa's history. We also drove part of the famous Garden Route, stopping at Boulders Beach to see its colony of endangered African penguins. Seeing them in their natural habitat was a real highlight.
Another highlight was our visit to Knysna Elephant Park. We stayed overnight in accommodation overlooking the elephant enclosure, giving us the chance to watch these gentle animals up close. It was a truly special experience that I will always remember.
South Africa has so much to offer. We enjoyed several safaris, sampled some excellent local wines and visited wildlife sanctuaries that care for endangered animals, including cheetahs, elephants and rhinos. Cape Town is a stunning city, and no visit would be complete without seeing Table Mountain and taking the cable car to enjoy the spectacular views.
What I loved most about South Africa was its variety. From beautiful coastlines and mountains to unforgettable wildlife encounters and fascinating history, every day offered something different. I feel very fortunate to have visited twice, and I would return again without hesitation."
