Australia vs France III - the decider

A successful tour for France but they fell short against the Wallabies who now turn their attention to the All Blacks!

Australia vs France III - the decider

Australia 33 France 30

Putting it right!

Identifying problems in a performance is one thing. Identifying practices to rectify the problem another. If players understand both aspects, then improvement is possible.

Both the Wallabies and All Blacks both made significant improvements around the tackle contest.

I ticked all my recommendations from the second test.

France are to be lauded for bringing a young squad down under and going into quarantine. Make no mistake this was a calculated decision to measure the quality both mentally and physically of this young French squad.

Of the 3 teams, France may have benefited most.

3 tests in 10 days was a roaring success and will surely prompt some behind the scenes mutterings. All 3 tests down to the wire in front of ecstatic crowds.

Wallaby selection for test 3 reflected the thoughts of many observers. Rennie is edging closer to the team and style of play he wants.

Koroibete’s dismissal in the 4th minute prompted both fury and questioning. If the remaining 14 players each raise their game by 5-10% they can compensate for the loss. Australia immediately lifted to a man and maintained it for 80 minutes. Koroibete will be missed on August the 7th when this Wallaby squad travel to Eden Park. He then takes up a lucrative 3-year deal in Japan. Who let that happen?

Both sides scored 3 tries and the extra penalty from Lolesio the difference.

The balance of the Australian side greatly improved, yet the backrow remains an issue at 6. Hooper was everywhere and when he finally appeared in mid-field a try followed!

Naisarani will improve if his fitness improves! Swinton looks the part and likes the biff, but mobility in support is lacking. Valentine needs some footwork and quick, well before August 7th.

Swain is a real find. He has a feel for getting his hands on the ball. I like his passion and fire.

Paisami will grow into the 12 position, he has vision and courage to use the ball, and when the coaches go through his performance, he will see where he can improve.

Elsewhere 2nd man plays were sacrificed to taking the ball to the line and playing through it. Quick ball can then be used against a retreating defense.

The O’Connor v Lolesio argument will run for a while. Age and the 2023 World Cup will ensure it is a robust discussion.
