Italy Multisports Tour - one week with football, rugby, hockey and netball teams in Northern Italy
Find out what happened when we organised the visit of one giant group of rugby players, footballers, hockey players and netballers to the north of Italy. Sporting fixtures, cultural visits and one giant itinerary!
One amazing sports tour to Italy.
An Energy Travel group managed to take rugby, football, hockey and netball teams to Italy for an unforgettable week of sightseeing and sport. Players, parents and coaches on one epic week!
Day 1 - Landed in Milan and transferred to accommodation on Lake Garda – time in the pool!
Day 2 - Fixture Day #1 – After a morning training session, and wine tasting for accompanying parents, the rugby teams headed away to their fixture whilst the hockey, football and netball teams all went down towards Parma for their matches. Fantastic and evenly matched fixtures throughout and amazing to see netball being played in Italy!
Day 3 - The group transferred to the East Coast to a sports complex with on-site water park, private beach and private accommodation. They then had free time to explore the resort nearby
Day 4 - Fixture Day #2 – Today the teams split up with football & rugby in Treviso, hockey in Padova, and netball in Mantova. An epic day but some fantastic matches for all teams involved
Day 5 – Heading back west today, with time in the magical city of Verona. The group saw the Roman Ampitheatre before exploring the pedestrianised streets in search of Juliet’s balcony. Pizza and gelato for lunch before heading on to accommodation back on Lake Garda
Day 6 – Fixture Day #3 – A visit to the beautiful lakeside resort of Lazise meant free time for more gelato as well as some souvenir shopping.
From here, rugby, soccer, netball and hockey teams again headed in different directions to enjoy close fought fixtures versus Italian hosts. Hockey at the north end of Lake Garda made for an epic backdrop of the Lake and surrounding mountains.
Day 7 – Today was all about culture, culture and more culture. A visit to Venice. It was amazing to take the boat in from Tronchetto to Saint Mark’s Square, to see the Campanile, the Doge’s Palace and the line gondolas. An incredible and unique city, and with no cars in sight, it’s safe and fun to explore. The kids even had a scavenger hunt to help them know what to look for.
Day 8 – It’s been quite a week, but there was still time to visit Lake Garda before a couple of hours in Milan – then time for the flight home!
A logistical marvel with so many teams, so many players and so much to see in just one week. Italy is an incredible destination for a multi-sports tour. Football and rugby are strong with countless opportunities for well-matched fixtures. Hockey is growing and fixtures here were also well matched. Netball is not a sport played in Italy but with some basketball clubs now having invested in the posts, balls and training their players, netball can now grow in this country. Add some sun, beach time and city visits and an Italy tour had everything!
